Black Russian

Created in 1949 by bartender Gustave Tops at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels, reputedly for the American ambassador to Luxembourg. Dark, smooth and pleasantly no-nonsense, its name nods to the intrigue of the early Cold War. A late-night sipper that does a great deal with very little.
