Breakfast Martini

Salvatore Calabrese dreamed up this marmalade-laced sour at the Library Bar of London's Lanesborough Hotel in 1996, inspired by a rushed breakfast his wife made him eat. The bitter orange preserve gives it texture and a lovely marmalade snap. A modern British classic through and through.

    Stir the marmalade with the gin in a shaker until loosened.

    Add the Cointreau, lemon juice and ice, then shake well.

    Fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

    Garnish with an orange twist.
